On December 8th we organized a program called Your House – Your Way. The program involved Debbie Picker, a parent who helped create a cooperative, independent living situation in a house in the Cleveland area made a fantastic presentation to a capacity crowd of families interested in learning more about housing options for their adult children. The model presented was a parent developed plan and involved connecting with other families who worked as a team to establish it.
After the presentation, parents interested in pursuing independent living options for their young adults completed a questionnaire. We will review the questionnaires and try to match up families/adults with similar needs or interests in order to continue the conversation and perhaps look at housing options. We are very optimistic that this was just the first step in a journey that will lead us to helping adults with disabilities find independent living options.
For anyone who was not able to attend the program but would like to be included in this process, ask for a questionnaire by emailing autismpersonalcoach@yahoo.com. Any questions can also be directed to that email address.
